i-net Crystal-Clear

Cluster Introduction

Please note: Cluster is a feature exclusive to i-net Crystal-Clear Plus.

i-net Crystal-Clear Plus implements a symmetric, highly scalable, dynamically loaded cluster providing failover functionality. The cluster does not have any special hardware or software requirements. With the cluster you can increase the power of your report server with a low budget. The minimum requirements are simply one additional computer per node. Increasing the available server capacity is as simple as adding another machine to the cluster.

How does the i-net Crystal-Clear cluster work

Clust Picture 1

To implement the dynamic loading, i-net Crystal-Clear sends a “hello” into the local network (an UDP packet to a well known port) when i-net Crystal-Clear starts. If there are other i-net Crystal-Clear cluster nodes in the local network then these nodes reply to this “hello”.

After the new node has received the answer from the other nodes it creates a connection with the network.

The advantages of the dynamic loading are:

  • There is no need of any complex cluster configuration because the nodes find each other.
  • The number of nodes can be extended very quickly and easily.

The disadvantages are:

  • All nodes have to be configured the same if you use a symmetric cluster. But in most cases it works to copy a folder with all configuration information.
