The i-net Clear Reports Remote Interface is the most convenient way to access the report server and use its functions. The Interface contains several modules which work independently - but together allow powerful behavior.
The Remote Interface currently offers the Remote Configuration Manager, Ad Hoc Reporting and the Remote Repository Browser. More modules are on the way.
The Remote Interface can be enabled during installation on the Create Configuration panel or later using the standalone Configuration Manager. If enabled you can open it in a web browser of your choice at http://YOURSERVER:PORT/CONTEXT/remote (please change “YOURSERVER”, “PORT” and “CONTEXT” accordingly) - if the installation is a standalone report server (Listener) you have to leave the “CONTEXT” out: http://YOURSERVER:9000/remote.
At the first run you have to set a password for the Remote Interface to secure it against random access. This is only the first step to make the restrict access and it is advised to use further mechanisms such as the login URL and System Permissions.
The System Permissions can also be used to restrict access to certain modules. E.g. there is an account for administration which has the permission to use every module and an account for visitors which only has permission for the Repository Browser.
The Remote Configuration is a browser-based twin to the standalone Configuration Manager with the same options and possibilities. It is the easiest way for headless servers to be configured, but is a comfortable web configuration tool for any server.
The Remote Data Source Configuration is a browser-based twin to the standalone Data Source Configuration Manager with the same options and possibilities. It is the easiest way to configure data source configurations on headless servers.
With i-net Clear Reports Plus, it is possible to host a report repository on a running report server. Users with appropriate permissions to the repository can fetch, store, tag, search, and run reports on the server itself instead of locally. Especially in environments with multiple report designers, this provides the advantage of centralizing reports and allowing for efficient storage and organization of company-wide reports.
The repository browser module is the core management component for the repository content. For more information, please have a look at the Plus Feature: Repository.
